Acoustic Worx provided Electroacoustic consulting for both the back of house and main bowl systems.

The goal was compliance with SANS 7240 – 16 in terms of speech intelligibility for emergency purposes.  Since most of the spaces were hard concrete, the reverberation was excessive.  This required careful choice on the type and performance characteristics of the loudspeakers due to the corrosive and poor acoustic conditions.

A high powered array system with weatherised cabinets was designed to cover the main bowl and provide sound pressure levels in excess of 100dBA.

An interesting acoustic issue was found at the acoustic modelling stage in terms of reverberation.  Predictions based on the reflection coefficients of the roof material showed reverberation at the seating plane at higher levels in excess of 5 seconds.
